On the Austrian bank of the Morava River, approximately 30 minutes from Bratislava, is the small town of Marchegg. While in the past there were up to 12 towns (bridges and fords) on the Austrian-Slovak border, where it was possible to cross the Morava River, during the period of the so-called not a single road bridge survived the Iron Curtain. The only exception was the railway bridge between Devínská Nová Ves and the town of Marchegg, but it also operated only in a limited mode.

Near Bratislava close to borders with Austria and Hungary there is an Endorheic and salty Lake Neusiedl. Near Balaton it is the only steppe lake in Europe. Its depth is 2 meters at most and thanks to this it became a paradise for unique fauna and flora. Also it is popular among tourists, sportsmen and everyone who likes nature.
