Croatia, Paklenica Park – For Tourists and Climbers Alike
This natural performance was created by limestone and dolomite. Close to the parking lot, there are steep slopes of the canyon. Many climbers like to climb it up. We also climb higher to Anića kuk (712 m) vantage point. Its steep walls are popular among alpinists. For a while we hop from one boulder to next, for another we walk slowly through the forest. You may drink some fresh water at a spring close to the crossroad. We have t ochoose. Either we can go on and continue walking toward Lugarnica cabin or we can climb up to Paklenica mountain cabin. Another option is to visit Manita Pec karst cave.
We choose a karst cave. Even though there is quite a steep climb ahead. The book guide claims we need about an hour and half to make this trail. We need to get to 550 meters of altitude where the entrance cave is situated. Be careful, as the cave is open only until 1 pm. Hence plan your trek accordingly. A tour is paid and it is only possible with a guide.
Near from the entrance to the cave, there is a beautiful vista over the surrounding landscape. We have still some time to see Lugarnica cabin. There we have an afternoon coffee. I would have almost forgotten about Vinettou. He is here! For here you may see signs saying Vinettou I, Vinettou II and others. Every place where the filmmakers shot location has a small table with notice of that
A visit to the park is a small taste of what you may experience here. There are over 150 km of trails – beginnig with the tourist ones to climbing routes. Paklenica is among Europe's most popular climbing destinations.
We do not have such ambitions so we return back to the car already looking forward to another tasty dinner at our resort. The last place we will visit in Chorvatsku is the town of Zadar. But more on it next week.
