Safety situation in Croatia
On the whole territory of Croatia, there is strictly forbidden to overnight in free nature. That means that, with exception of accommodation in hotel, camping or in private locations, there is not allowed the other way of lodging. Provided this prescription would not be maintained, the tourists could be in danger of police prosecution, legal (juridical) prosecution, fines or even prison. At the same time, there is to be recommended, not to underestimate the danger, menacing at stay at Adriatic Sea, especially, not to overestimate the strength at swimming, follow carefully weather forecast and not to pass the sea during storm and windy weather. Nevertheless, the Ministry recommends that Czech citizens would take into consideration frequent critical situations on local roads and pay attention to vehicle while driving , including keeping breaks of the drive. However, a tiredness after long journey , high, improper speed or non-keeping of sufficient distance in traffic jam are the most frequent reasons of heavy accidents. In Croatia, so called zero tolerance of alcohol contents in driver´s blood is valid. Moreover, use of celullar (mobil) phone during driving is not allowed (with the exception of hands-free set), there is a duty to have car reflectors lighted all the day, when driving. The use of protective helmet for cyclists, younger than 16 years of age as well as the use of child seat (for child transport) are obbligatory. The Croatian coast is quite safe, according to the declaration of local police, as the rests of non-exploded ammunition and mines were removed. Anyway, in some inland areas, there are marked and bordered some sections, where these rests from the war would occure eventually. Nevertheless, as far as your own safety is concerned, we do not recommend you , during your journey towards the sea, to enter free nature, except marked ways, in section Karlovac-Split and do not enter the buildings (objects) destroyed by the war.
