Lower Austria: Bicycle Trips for All

Published: 17.6.2018
A week later we are returning to Lower Austria, which offers a number of beautiful cycling trails crossing its picturesque countryside, around monuments or places with great cuisine. Today we will introduce the most popular trails.

The network of marked cycling trails in Lower Austria is of an incredible length of up to 4,200 km. In addition to the professional trail markings, there are many attractions and interesting sights that make unforgettable moments on a bicycle.

Monasteries, castles, chateaus, museums and natural treasures are part of the so-called TOP Cycle Tours of the Lower Austrian Region. This is thanks to perfect markings, top quality businesses, and equipment designed for the needs of cyclists, bicycle transport, but also thanks to the dense railway network, many restaurants and refreshment stops, charge stations for electirc bicycles etc. Thanks to all these features, they are among the most frequently visited cycling routes every year and are the target of active vacation on a bike

The Danube Bicycle Route (260 km) is among the ten most popular cycling trails together with the Trasental Cycle Route (111 km), the EuroVelo 9 (212 km), the 32-km Triestingau Cycle Route, the 426 km Kamp-Dyje-Morava, (EuroVelo 13) of the length of 400 km, the 38-km Piestingtal cycle trail, the bicycle trail going across Triesting-Gölsental valley in the length of 62 km, the 111 km long Thayrunde and the Ybstall cycling route of 55 km in total lenght.

The varied offer for bicyclists in Lower Austria seems to copy the diversity of the country. Over the last years, a great deal of wealth has been invested in building bicycle trails for different target groups. There are, for example, 14 cycling routes great for children. These  run on easy terrain, across safe nature and around stops that are fun for the whole family.

Pleasure seekers may try so called radial trips. From one place you can go for more trips into the area. You can choose a one-day trip or a multiple-day trip. A bag with basic things will be just enough to take with. Trips you may make are really diverse - for example, in Retz you can try wine-related bicycling, and in Baden the cultural treasures of the Vienna Woods are the main theme of the cycle trails.

In recent years, an extensive network of bike rentals has been built. Bicycles powered by electricity are available for rent in the regions of Bucklige Welt, Weinviertel, around Danube, the Cider trail or some MTB trail in the Ybstaller Alps. A practically designed network of trails with charging stations, repair shops and facilities selling food and drinks are great for a ride on flatland or in the hills.

Hesitate no more and set out to explore the land of Lower Austria on the bike.
