Safety
East Timor is fresh new state formation (the independence was declared on 20th May 2005) , the structure of which is forming de facto. The police as well as the army is unable to secure the order and safety in the country. All such activities are secured by means of members of international police and military units of United Nations.
The area along East Timor border and Indonesia (West Timor) seems to be quite dangerous, and occasional armed encounters could happen there. However, more than 70% unemployment dominates in the country. This fact could become a potentional source of street criminality.
In general, East Timor could be a territory for very experienced tourists.
