Babiččino údolí (Grandmother's Valley)
Nerby the river: Úpa
Just in Middle Ages, a small wooden school building was placed in the town of Česká Skalice. However, it burnt down on occasion of one big fire at that time. Anyway, a building of former Steidler pub was preserved (now, there is a seat of Božena Němcová Museum here). Since 1837, some celebrations are taken place here. In 1952, Babiččino údolí (Grandmother´s Valley) was declared as State Nature Reservation. In the outskirts, there were to be found many meadows, however, they were wet and little fertile. So, from this reason, there were created here, within 1848-1874, canals and trenches, which prevented local humidity. At present, these canals do not fulfill their function are in desolate stage. Nevertheless, there is to be found here oak-trees, hornbeams and other wooden trees.
Grandmother´s Valley offers to birds good position for making nests, and also forest animals have here enough food. Twenty five information panels get acquiantance about places of interest along this educational path.
Route length: 7,5 kms
