Kozákov look out tower
This look out tower offers wonderful view over Krkonoše (Giant Mountains), Lužické Mountains, Jizerské Mountains, České středohoří (Bohemian Highland) and Bohemian Paradise. In past, this view was impossible from this place. You had to move from one place to the other, in order to see the whole area. So, from this reason, the Club of Czech Tourists had an idea to build on a top of Kozákov Hill (near to the town of Semily) a look out tower. The building could be joined with St.Cyril and Method chapel, not to interfere the countryside too much. However, the costs were very high, so, it was recommended to build rather a barrow look out tower. In 1902, there was founded a fund for view barrows, however, this intetion was cut by 1st World War, and later, when Czechoslovakia was established, the money was used for school buildings constructions.
In 1928, there was built here a chalet, bearing the name of František Ladislav Rieger, Semily native. Since 1948, the chalet changed several owners, when, finally returned back into ownership of Czech Tourist Club. Nevertheless, look out tower still missed. Even in 1993, when the army needed some connecting knot, so, thanks to Club´s activity, there was erected not only army building, but even also craved-for look out tower.
View circular gallery was open for public on 1st December 1994. Solemn opening took place on 22nd April 1995. The public has the access for tourist-gallery in the height of 24 metres. You reach up there, mounting 124 stairs. Total height of look out tower makes 40 metres. However, within winter time period, the look out tower is closed for tourists, with the exception of days when snow and frost are missing.
