Luhačovice spa
Luhačovice Spa is situated in Preserved Nature Countryside Area, in river-bed of Olše river, south-east part of Czech Republic, Zlín region, in an altitude of 250 metres abov
e sea level. The history of local mineral springs comes to 16th century, when, after balneological analysis of welling up water, known as Slanice and Hlavní (today´s Vincentka), there were coordinated healing features. Mineral sources were used by local people as well as by visitors. In 1789, there were built first lodge and pub here, with guest rooms and wooden bathrooms. Within 19th century, the change of balneology place begun. Its target was to create Bohemian Spa full of „spirit and forms“. Dusan Jurkovic, Slovak architect, inspired with people´s architecture of Wallachia, created unforgettable balneology building in Neo-classic (Art-Deco
) style. So, new houses, hotels, pubs, colonnades, parks and fountains were constructed (33 objects are written in survey of cultural monuments).
In Luhačovice area, 14 cold mineral springs well up, with contents of hydroxyde carbonic, calcium, magnesia, natrium, chloride and also one spring containing sulphur. Five mineral springs serve to drinking cures, other are destined for treatment baths. The effects of springs are being used for treatment of oncological diseases, diseases of circular, digestive and metabolic apparatus, as well as inflammations of respiratory ways. At present, the spa offers to visitors the services by means of two companies: Balneology Hotels Miramare and Luhačovice Spa, Ltd. So, in the neighbourhood, you can find variegated offer of cultural as well as historical places of interest. So, traditional events are: solemny spring´s opening, on occasion of start of balneology saison. Unique building work is presented by Luhačovice Dam, finished in 1930. Moreover, famous vineyard areas suit all lovers of good wine.
