South-east Asia is getting increasingly popular yet people often forget about Laos. It is a pity because one gets fantastic experience in the country. Most of it is mountains, monumental ones. You shouldn’t miss those. Don’t expect tourist directions, just expect great adventures, beautiful nature and nice people. Laos is a really safe country. In winter, it is really nice there(20–30 °C).

Laos, Nong Khiaw: Climber on a Thread

I wouldn’t believe there could be a city in Asia of such proportions that is so quiet. No traffic jams, no crowds, no crowds of tourists. It is true that Laotian capital Vientiane has “only” 750 thousand people. Still, I was very surprised. I don’t agree with Lonely Planet which says there is nothing to see and it advices you to better avoid it.

I am watching green hills, cliffs, rice fields, and stone jars from the window on a minibus. The jars are large, small, oval, with and without a lid. Unlike the road, these are hard to not to see. There is no proper tourist trail but rather a road lined on both sides.
