SK: Skialpinism in the Mountains of Slovakia

Published: 1.2.2024
Skialpinism has becoming increasingly popular. Hence we became interested in a relatively new book which contains a selection of the best skialpine rides in the mountains of Slovakia.

The Selection of Ski- and Skialpine Treks is a bookguide about an adrenaline sport in its pure form. An alpineskier doesn't visit classical ski resorts, he rather experiences strenous climbs and joy of amazing rides on fresh snow on steep slopes. Moreover, such a sportsmen or sportswomen must know when there is an avalanche danger or upcoming bad weather for he or she is responsible only for himself or herself in the mountains. A bad decision may have fatal consequences.

The book offers the selection of the most popular and beautiful treks which may or may not be difficult regardless restrictions posed by rules of protection of nature. Some treks in the book go against nature protection rules still these treks exist in reality.

It wouldn't be responsible and would even be bit hypocritical if the author and the publisher had concealed ski and skialpine treks from the reader who might seen the track in the terrain. The treks which are not in line with present nature protection rules are labeled with the "!". Therefore, it is up to the reader to check present restrictions from a nature protection agency.

There is much valuable information stored in the book. It documents 80 skialpine treks in the High, Western, and Low Tatras as well as the High Fatra. It contains 69 photographs, and added waypoints pose a new feature which makes crossing the terrain easier especially in severe weather conditions.

The third edition is linked to the online Reader's Zone. Once you enter a code which is put in every book every reader can view coordinates on a map. This allows him to see pictures featured in the book in great detail. Moreover, GPS coordinates are updated and there is an e-shop selling related products.

The book's goal is to inform that skialpinism doesn't harm mountain nature. Skialpinists treat nature with care which is also defined in the rules of skialpinism.
