Published: 3.8.2015
In last articles, we were getting fit for easier climbing. Lets see what is slacklining in today’s article.

Slackline is a strap made of various materials. Its width and length are various. It depends on the kind of slackline (width: 25 mm and 50 mm, length from 5 meters to hundreds of meters). Slackline, however, is not only this strap yet it contains a set to anchor it to two firm points, and also a mechanism which makes it tightened. The name slackline is for its characteristic slack shape. The most common material is polyester, and hi-tech materials like vectran and dyneema for long slacklines.

slackline

Couple of years ago, nobody knew about slackline, or they thought it was an activity for climbers to kill some time. But this is no longer true. Toda,y it is a very popular activity for many people, mostly young adults.

As you have learned in the previous article, slacklining was created Yosemitte valley . Climbers who founded it were so excited about it that they would come back to stretch on Lost Arrow Spire. So this is how the history of this freetime activity began. In the course of 30 years, it has had several disciplines.

slackline

Slackline is a walk on a kind of a rope without any other equipment. People involved in this sport describe it as a ropewalking, a sport from which slackline is derived, probably. Except for balanced walked, people do some static and dynamic tricks of various difficulty. Your fantasy is the limit.

In the Czech Republic is new to the slacklining. Yet it has becoming very popular every since it was introduced here. The first milestone came in 2007. In August, Jiri Janousek organized Slack Line Fest na Bišíku (at Bischofsteinu in Adršpassko-Teplicke Rocks). Fifty other enthusiasts from Bohemia and Germany came there. Since 2007, there are regular Slackline festivals in Hejnice and Sobotka. These have really great atmosphere, yet there is more adrenaline for physical limits of slackliners are much higher.

slackline

In 2011, an official slackline association was founded – Česká asociace slackline, o. s.. Its goals are the same as of the World Slackline Federation yet the Czech organization is focused on the Czech territory. Its main goal is to negotiate better position of slacklining with towns (some forbid slacklining saying it damages trees). Other goal of the Czech organization is to improve knowledge of this sport.

slackline

In the Czech Republic, slacklining is a very popular activity. We have ideal conditions to practice this sport (trees, high rock formations) which is opens this activity to professionals as well as to people who just want to stretch slackline between trees. In the present, we are one of the slackline superpowers. Results of our slackliners put them among the best – we have, for example 60 persons who can overcome a 100-meter longline. Except for us, Germans, Americans, French and also Spaniards excel in this sport.
