Králický Sněžník

The massif of Kralický Sněžník is situated on border of historical frontiers of Bohemia, Moravia and  Klodzko. Together with the highest point of the same name (1424 m) it was in 1990 declared as National Natural Reservation and is extended on a surface relating to 1694,67 hs. Kralický Sněžník is an iceberg range, created in Younger Tertiary Formation by tectonic lifting. The rests of pine trees forests remained from the original copse, subalpine communities and  peatbogs.

In the protected area you can find protected plants, (bluebell) and rare fauna (hazel-hen). Not far from the top (from here there is a beautiful view to Orlické Mountains, Staré Město and Hrubý Jeseník, is - in the altitude of 1350 situated a fountain, from where it is springing the river Morava. The other interesting thing you can see on the top, is  a border column and the statue of an elephant. The stone look-out-tower, built in 1899, was standing here till 1973.

Approx. 500 m under the peak you can find so called „stone sea“ (swallows´stones).

Published: 13.11.2007
The mountain of Kralický Sněžník is with 1424 m the highest point of mountain-range of the same name, situated on a state border with Poland. The name of the mountain comes from the long period, where snow remains on the top within 8 months. The river of Morava is springing several hundreds of meters below the top. The avalanches falling down quite often, prevent the growth of cops.
