Krkonoše (Giant Mountains)

These mountains are situated in north-east part of Bohemia on the frontier with Poland.

Giant Mountains are the highest mountain range in Czech Republic. The highest point of this range -and at the  same time of the whole Czech Republic –is Sněžka the peak 1602 m high.

The mountains of  Krkonoše  are, thanks to big quantity of rare sorts of plants and animals declared in 1963  as National Park (KRNAP).

Czech mountains are more and more competitive-capable, first of all, thanks to its offer of modern and well equipped holiday resorts. However, there is one problem, impossible to be solved in advance. It could happen that incalculable „snow present“ would be sometimes insufficient, and the snow condition in Alps are better in this respect.

Giant valley in Giant mountains

Between community of Pec pod Sněžkou and Sněžka-slope, bordered with Široký hřbet (Wide Range) and Studniční hora (Studniční Mountain), there is situated Giant Valley. Úpa-river crosses here three glacier lakes.

Labska bouda (Labska chalet)

Labská Cottage was founded in 1830 by a woman named "die Blasse" which sold here goat-cheese, milk and spirits. The building was originally constructed of stones, barks and bush.

Luční bouda

Luční bouda is to be found in Giant Mountains at foot of Luční hora (Meadow Hill). It is greatest chalet in Giant Mountains with restaurant situated in an altitude of 1410 m of sea level. This place is protected by European Agreement Natura 2000. In such high altitude, there are missing trees, wildings and mountain foot are covere mostly with plough-tail coverings.

Small and Grate Kotelní Jámy (Kettle Holes)

This dominanta of Giant Mountains is situated in northwestern direction of Horní Mísečky community. Kotel (Kettle) peak is 1435 m high, and it is a dominion of ice, snow and wild wind. This protected area created by glacier formations is placed in the first belt of National Park, at southern and southeastern slope of Kotel.

Lánov

In the eastern direction of Vrchlabí, along small river Malé Labe (Small Elbe) it is situated the community of Lánov, with 1500 inhabitants, Region of Hradec Králové, Trutnov District. Horní and Prostřední Lánov form the community, its altitude is 462m of sea level. The first written notice comes from middle of 14th century.

Rokytnice nad Jizerou

The community of Rokytnice nad Jizerou is situated in western part of Krkonoše (Giant Mountains) in an altitude of 520 m of sea level. The town was created by uniting of Horní and Dolní Rokytnice, Rokyta, Hořejší Domky, Hrušov, Zákoutí, Helďsebe, Vilémov, Hranice and Studenov.

Vrchlabí

The town is situated at the altitude of 450 m of sea level on upper flow of Elbe-river and it is known also as a „Gate to Giant Mountains“. In 1546 it was started the constrfuction of a castle which became now a dominante of a town. It was built in Renaissance style, at present it is a seat of Town´s Office.
