Šumava (Bohemian Forest)

Bohemian Forest is one of the oldest mountain range of Europa. It is a biggest Natural Park in Czech Republic (69 030 ha). Bohemian Forest is situated on the Border of Czech Republic with Germany and Austria. It is formed by rocks of Primary mountains origin. As Natural Park it was declared in 1991. There are many monuments here. The tourists have choice for spending of nice holidays as in winter as in summer. The highest point of Šumava names Plechý (1378 m).

Čertovo jezero (Devil's lake)
Its area is 9,7 ha and its depth is up to 36 m.
Devil´s lake is the second biggest lake, after Černé jezero (Black Lake) in distance of 1,5 kms only. Both lakes belong to those most visited places of Bohemian Forest, both are declared as National Natural Reservations. The lake is surrounded with fir-wood copse of virgin forest character. This reservation (Black and Devil´s Lake) is a real jewel of Bohemian Forest Mountains. You reach the lake on yellow marked tourist sign, and from Opičácké sedlo (Opičácké Col) – after 2,5 kms walk from here continues red marked tourist sign up to Black Lake across watershed, long approx. 2,5 kms, and afterthat to Bílá strž (White Gap), where you find a waterfall of nearly 14 m height.
In 1957 there was effected here a reconnaisance of lake under water-level, however, no concrete result was obtained. Anyway, the boxes with explosives we found by reconnaisance-team in July 1964 only. The liquidation of first part of discovery was made on 10th July 1964 at 11,36 h. The explosion let a crater of 2,5 m of depth and 5 m of width.
The nature reservation was damaged but the officials did not taken any consideration. at that time.
