Plešné lake
Published: 5.2.2008
Plešné lake is situated in Bohemian Forest in an altitude of 1090 m of sea level, having a surface of 7,48 ha. periphery of 1242 m, biggest depth of 18,3 m. The volume of seized water exceeds 617000 cubic metres.

Its pier is high 30-40 metres. The glacier boiler (kar) is profound into northeastern slope of biggest peak, Plechý. Sharp closing walls of a boiler with denuded rocks and wreckage streams reach nearly to its top. Lake´s wall is high of 260 m.

The excavaiting boiler was caused by slope-glacier, one of eleven pieces, which existed in Bohemian Forest during Quartiary-Formation period. The glacier reached the width of 1 km, so it was the widest in the mountains. After it disappeared, at the edge of boiler (kar) a front moraine formed from big boulders remained, which created a natural pier. The water flows through lake brook to Vltava-river.
