In recent times Czechs more and more often visit Dresden. The second largest Saxon city that is well accessible from PraguePrague. It is not only an option for those who just want to shop, but the city itself has a rich cultural life and wonderful historical city-center that was restored after the Second World War due to a disastrous bombarding by RAF and USAAF.

Bad Schandau, a German town, is situated almost on the border. We set off from Mlada Boleslav and travel in the direction to Ceska Lipa and Decin. We cross the border at Schmilka border crossing which is mere 8 kilometers from our point of interest. Bad Schandau, as the name suggests, is a spa town. It is situated on banks of the Elbe River in the heart of Saxon Switzerland national park. Bad Schandau consists of nine districts – the old town of Schandau, Krippen, Porschdorf, Neuporschorf, Prossen, Schmilka, Postelwitz, Waltersdorf and Ostrau. As Bad Schandau is really a small town, there are several places to visit.

For we have experience with overcrowded Christmas market in Dresden or Wien, this time we decided to try some less known cities in Germany - Görlitz and Bautzen. It took us less than 2 hours to reach downtown Görlitz. Bautzen is only 40 minutes by car further. You can park your car there easily and the Christmas market gets crowded only in the evening.
