Banský Studenec
The environs of the village is without forests, whereas vast oak-forests, fir-tree and beechwood forests are situated around but rather distant. Local basement is rich in brown forest soils. In the community, artificial Kolpaš Lake, is to be found. Banský Studenec is placed in the altitude of 585 metres above sea level.
The first written notice about Banský Studenec is dated to 1266, when the place had the name of Kulpah. Nevertheless, the names of communities were changed often in past. So, in 1352, the village belonged to Banská Štiavnica. Till 1960, the community formed a part of Hontianska County, Banská Štiavnica district, Banská Bystrica Region. Later, after 1960, the area was affiliated to Žiar nad Hronom district. Anyway, at present, the village belongs to Banská Bystrica Region, Banská Štiavnica district. Since 1730, you can find two water basins in the community. So, in 1715, Banský Studenec had 18 households, in 1828, 66 buildings were constructed and nearly 400 persons lived there. All were employed as miners. At the beginning of 20th century, the inhabitants were active in industrial companies in neighbouring villages or in agriculture. In 1958, Agriculture Cooperative Farms were founded. Regarding places of interest: you can visit Roman Catholic Church of 1745, built in Baroque style with wooden bell-tower of first half of 19th century.
