The community of Braväcovo is situated on south slopes of Low Tatra Mountains in an altitude of 650 metres above sea level, in distance of 12 kms, east direction from the town of Brezno.

The village is surrounded with marvellous nature millieu, where dominate pine forests. Braväcovo was founded as wood-cutter community at the end of 16th century. The first written notice comes of 1630. The village is interesting, first of all, in numerous preserved old wooden houses, which are being used as weekend holiday houses at present. Regarding culture activities: this is, first of all, singing club „Domovina“ (Fatherland) and folklore choir. The sympathy for music, songs and dance let local inhabitants to an idea to build an amphitheatre, and this construction wonderful falls, with its architecture, into character of the village. Green marked tourist trail leads through, and you can reach the highest peak Běnuška.

Before the village was established, the area was full if vast swamps and marshes, where wild pigs lived. And just these animals could be obviously the originators of a name for the community. Braväcovo was, till 1950, a part of the community of Běňuš. Nevertheless, the independence was obtained in 1957, as the youngest village of Brezno district. In 1828, there were 44 houses in the village, where totally 332 persons lived. After obtaining its independence, the community had 1027 inhabitants. In past,the people were engaged mostly in agriculture, sheep breeding and in jobs in surrounding iron works. At present the village is a home for 700 persons approx.
