Region of Banská Bystrica

Gemerská Panica
Gemerská Panica is situated in the altitude of 194 metres above sea level, on main road between Zvolen and Košice. From district town of Rožňava is 30 kms distant, and from a
nother town of Tornala, the distance makes 6 kms.
History
The first written notice about this village comes of 1247. We are informed from documents of 13th century that two small communities, Vyšná and Nižná Panica, existed in this area. Anyway, both seats joined consequently together, and one village was established. In 1427, Tornalla and Kompolth Families are stated in the documents as owners. During Rakoczy uprising in 17th century, the community was registered as deserted. Local inhabitants were always feeded on agriculture, coal and lime burning, or, on the other hand, with sheep and goats breeding. When visiting Gemerská Panica, it is worth to visit, first of all, Evangelic Church in Baroque style of 1801, which later undergone Neo-classic arrangements. Wooden baptistal font of 1656 forms the oldest part of interior.
Contemporaneity
Anyway, we cannot omit the castle, fifty years younger, constructed in Art-deco style. Its
owner was Count Kubinyi, Deputy of Hungarian Parliament, an important designer of railway routes. At present, the castle is reconstructed and serves as a boarding house. In the community, you can also find new Roman Catholic Church, finished during 1960-1970. Several houses have very good preserved people´s architecture. The citizens have available, except nest of shops and services, recently newly reconstructed House of Sorrow (Funeral Hall). At present, the community has 800 inhabitants approx. and the people are engaged mainly in agriculture.
