Harmanec
Harmanec Valley was, just since Middle Age, a centre of mining industry. At the beginning of 15th century, the community of Dolny Harmanec was established there. Later, thanks to paper-mill industry, an independent village of Harmanec was created. The beginnings of paper industry come the 18th century. In 1957, the community of Harmanec was decalred as an independent seat, including necessary representants of state power. Harmanec is placed along an important traffic line, connecting the towns of Martin and Banská Bystrica.
Contenporaneity
The village could be proud on Kremnica Hills (with the altitude of 486 metres above sea level) and Great Fatra Mountains. Torrent Bystrica, local water source, flows through the community. Even surrounding nature is variegaed. The countryside is quite mountaneous, bordered with coniferous and mixed leafy forests. You can find there brown forest soils, including red slates and quartz. In past, the place was famous thanks to excavating of gold and auriferous mineral veins with contents of silver. The community of Harmanec us neighbouring in north-west with Dolný Harmanec, and in south-east with Ulanka. The village forms a part of Banská Bystrica distruct, Central Slovakia Region.
