The first historical notice of the town is of 1356. In 16th century it was built the first glass factory in Mšeno, and during this period it started the first permanent colonisation of the area.
Jablonec started quick to increase and became important glass-production area, especially in the second half of 17th century. In the middle of 18th century the local production enlarged to bijouterie. Since beginning of 19th century Jablonec formed the trade contacts all over the world. It is true that Jablonec was a market-town only. Jablonec became a real town on 26th March 1866 only.
Who intends to go to Jablonec, so he does not omit to visit the Museum of Glass and Bijouterie. You can see the standard expositions of Marvellous World of Bijouterie and Splendid Garden. This museum collects the documents as to the history and present periods of glass production, coinage as well as production of bijouterie.
As to the cultural monuments: it is Church of St. Anna in Kostelní Street, built in 1685-1687, in 19th century rebuilt in Neo-renaissance style. The church was originally surrounded by a cemetery. Starokatolický church in secession-style on Božena Němcová Square was built in 1900-1902. The building of the Old Town Hall on Dolní náměsté (Lower Square) was bult in Munich Architecture Style, originally served as a town hall, afterthat it was here a post-office and district office. At present this building serves as a Town Library. The new town hall on Mírové náměstí (Peace Square) is now serving as the seat of Town Office. We find cinema-hall in its subterranean part.
The part of Jablonec forms also a dam (water basin) Mšeno. You can enjoy bathing in summer or you can lease a boat and delight in direct from the water-level, whereas in winter you enjoy fully the skating. The choice of sports activities in Jablonec and surroundings is big also thanks to Jizerské Mountains, situated nearby.
