This mountain, holiday, tourist and sporting resort is situated in a valley of river Jizera and Huťský, Černý and Rokytnice brooks.

The dominanta of a town form the ranges of Studenov and Kotel. There are excellent ski-conditions and several tourist trails here. In the surroundings there are 24 towages and a seat funicolar, leading to the ranges of neighbouring hills. There are snow-guns, evening skiing as weel as 18,6 kms of descent rouites available. Ski areas Horní Domky, Studenov, Modrá Hvězda-Bahýnka, Pařez, Šachtovka, Paseky nad Jizerou offer their services to the public. Skiregion offers also prepared ski-run-routes and circles.

Rokytnice was inhabited in 16th century. There was the exploitation of wood, copper, lead and silver. The tradition of weaving and glass production is very important in this region.

In summer, there are several touring and cyclotouring roads and paths. The loan-offices of cycles, tennis courts, bowling centre, sporting hall, ski-schools, sauna as well as fitness centre are self-evident.
