Frýdek - Místek
Region of Moravia-Silesia

Frýdek - Místek
The town was created by joining of Silesian town of Frýdek and Moravian town of Místek. In 1943 (it named as Frýdek at that time) and as Frýdek-Místek since 1955. Místek was marked as Friedeberg in past (destroyed on 14th century), and new small town of Newentetil was established.
As to handicraft, in Frýdek-town prevailed drapery, in Místek- town prevailed agriculture. Both towns made a business with salt and cattle, worked with wood and specialised to pond construction. They were also damaged by fires, epidemies, and were remarked by wars. In 19th century, several textile factories were founded and a forge was constructed.
At present, to the town-quarters belong Frýdek, Místek, Chlebovce, Lysůvky, Zelinkovice, Lískovec and Skalice. Frýdek-Místek is known as a „Gate to Beskydy Mountains“. You can find here several touring and cyclotouring routes, and town´s surroundings offer possibilities for winter sports activities.
As to historical monuments: it is a castle of 17th century. You find here Beskydy Museum with the exposition of Beskydy Region. Originally it was a Gothic castle, subsequently it was changed to a Renaissance castle with a park. It serves as a cultural and social centre, the exhibitions, concerts are taken place, and a Ceremonial Room for Weddings is situated here. The castle offers also – twice a year – unusual night´s inspection.
You find also so called National House of 1896, New Scene Home and Cinema of Peter Bezruč. The history of National House is closely connected with town´s history.
