Kopřivnice
Kopřivnice belonged, together with villages of Lichnov, Vlčovice, Závišice, Drnholec and Frenštát to a dominion, owned by Příbor Parentage. This area remained in their possession till 1307. Afterthat, the dominion changed several times its ownership, and , finally at breakage of 14th and 15th century, the area became a mortgage of King Zikmund Lucemburský. First written notice comes of 1437. In 1465, the dominion was in ownership of King George of Poděbrady.
Kopřivnice was not successfull in defending of war´s campaigns, epidemies, bad harvests, or natural disasters. With the establishment of factory for production of pottery and clay-goods in 1812 changed the situation in a substantial way. Since 1813, the factory started to manufacture the plates, bowls, jugs and pots. Since 1830, the factory started to produce white and stone-ware goods, and in 1834 the total production reached 120000 pieces of ceramic-ware in a year. At the end of 19th century, the production was extended in tiles, glazed tiles and garnish tiles. However, within war years, the production was expressively limited and in 1962, the factory was definitely closed.
The big role played also so called „lower“ factory, established by Ignatz Schustala in 1850. The first work-shop here was created in building No. 1. He started the production with light gigs.
Anyway, a big demand caused that a factory had to be founded. Further development was connected with manufacturing of railway-waggons. So, Kopřivnice reached a big development, thanks to industrialisation. The production of coaches found its use in the manufacturing of first automobiles. The production of cars required the construction of further buildings. In 1910, Kopřivnice was officially declared as a small town, and, finally in 1919, there were produced first automobiles of brand TATRA. In 1948, Kopřivnice was declared as a town and a factory, as well as key-industry in a town was nationalised.
As to important Kopřivnice natives: It is Zdeněk Burian (painter and illustrator), Emil Zátopek (Olympia winner, athlet-sportsman) and many others. It is worth to visit: Regional Museum – offering four various expositions – such as: Technical Museum TATRA, Schustala-villa, Fojtství Museum and Museum of Dana and Emil Zátopkových.
