Šternberk
Gothic castle was founded within 1253-1269 by Šternberk Parentage. First notice about Šternberk-town comes of 1296. In past, the position of a town signified not only a prosperity but also military threat. During Hussite Wars in 15th century and 30-years´ War in 17th century the town served as a military support point. Successively, the plague was the reason for the fact that the number of Czech speaking inhabitants decreased and German and Silesian immigrants came in order to colonize this region. In 19th century, became as main industrial section in Šterberk the textile production.
Thanks to it, the town started to develop, mainly in bulding sector. In middle of 19th century, Šternberk was a district town. Except of this, the town became famous thanks to a hill „Ecce Homo“ – here the car competitions-rides up to the top of the hill are taken place, just since 1905.
Tips for excursions:
Community of Těškov: near to this seat, which is part of Šternberk-town now, you find a spring of iron-mineral water (Těškov acidulous water).
Golf Club Olomouc: established in 1993 in a locality of Dolany-Véska in Šterberk Micro-region.
Sovinec Castle: originally Hussite fortification, jail and base of SS units, the biggest castle complex of Bruntál district.
Bouzov Castle: one of most visited castles in Czech Republic, In outer bailey you can also visit a Gallery with so called Troya Horse and weapons approval.
Direct in a town: you can visit a castle, church of Annunciation Lady Day with a monastery, Hospital Church, plague column, town hall and neo-classical houses on a square of monumental zone.
