Sušice

The original community of Sušice was situated on dry headland between rivers of Otava and Roušarka. Anyway, it became a small town soon. In 1192 was declared as a town and in 1273 happened to be in a possession of Přemysl Ottakar II – so it became the King´s town. It was an important centre in Hussits time, too.

In 19th century there was established safety-matches and leather manufacturing, also the limestone mining made a development. Regarding  historical monuments: it is Parish church of St.Wenceslas , St.Felix Church, cemetery church of Virgin Mary, museum in Vrpochovský House, town hall (seat of town´s offices) and Pilgrimage Chapel of Guardian Angel on Watch-Hill.

The production of first safety-matches in Bohemia was started in 1839. The first small workshop  was in property of local joiner Vojtěch Scheinost. So started the famous tradition of safety matches of Sušice, not only in Bohemia, but also abroad. Thanks to the family of Furth the small factory became a big enterprise and  the name SOLO  SAFETY MATCHES FACTORY was a world´s  idea.

At present, the company  produces 400 millions of safety matches in a year. The safety matches heads  do not contain sulphur or heavy metals, so the matches belong to ecological and recyclable products.
