Frymburk
Frymburk is a picturesque holiday small town, placed on a peninsula along Lipno L
ake. Here, you find vessel transport landing place and ferry (it is in operation each hour in summer). In north, as well as in south direction of the town, along banks of water bassin, we find several boarding houses, relax centres and two big camping place - Vřesná and U Lískovců. In 5 kms distance from the community, there is to be found Frymburk sporting airport. In eastern direction, at the community of Lipno, we find near to slope of Slunečný vrch (Sunny Hill), ski-descent area with three ski-towages and ski-seat-rope-railway (belonging also to ski area). Near to the community of Slupečná, there is modern golf play ground available, and in souhern direction from Frymburk, there is created ski-descent line with ski-towage in community-quarted named „Na Martě“.
In Frymburk, we find several cyclists - as well as tourist marked routes. Right side of Lipno Lake is a real paradise for cyclotourists, with its narrow unfrequented roads, situated in intacted nature of Bohemian Forest Preserved Countryside Area, not far distant from Austrian border. The passengers can be transferred by a ferry to the opposite bank of the lake, in order to be better acquainted with beauties of local nature, passing hills of Malý Plešný (917 m) and Velký Plešný (1010 m), up to the community of Svatý Tomáš (Saint Thomas). In its neighbourhood, you can reach castle-ruin of the same name, with rocky formations, up to hill top named as Vítkův Kámen (Vítek Stone) in an altitude of 1035 m above sea level. If you continue further, across Kaliště Hill (993 m), you reach the view known as Alpská vyhlídka (Alps-Outlook).
In Frymburk city centre you can feel with pleasure, visit of its picturesque square is a relax experience, a similar impression you obtain from many other places here. As far as the monuments which are worth to see, belongs, first of all, St.Bartholomew church of 1277. The church was rebuilt in late Gothic style in 1530, and again in a period 1649-1652. In 1651, a whiping-post with a bell were placed here. You cannot miss stone fountain of 1676, stone barrow with bronze relief of Adalbert Stifter, local writer, as well as Vítkův hrádek (Vítek Castle), founded in 13th century.
First written notice about Frymburk comes of 1277. The place belonged to Krumlov Parentage. Anyway, after 1302 the place was in possession of Rosenberg Parentage. Originally, small market town, with linen-tradition of end of 13th century, was placed on important merchant way from Upper Austria to Bohemia. Since 1305, there was to be paid a toll on bridge across Vltava-river, and Frymburk market town was declared as a town on 1379. In 1492, Peter Vok of
Rosenberg, granted the town his special town´s right. According to this, the population was set free from „declination“. Later, William of Rosenberg granted local citizens the right for beer cooking. On 28th April 1789, Emperor Joseph II. granted a town the right to organise weeks markets (on each Tuesday) and year´s St. Ann Market. However, in 19th century, there appeared first idea concerning dam -construction. In 1950, there was just decided to build it, and most part of Frymburk had to be inundated. Nevertheless, last preparations were cut and stopped with 2nd World War. So, the dam-construction
begun later, in 1951, and the work was terminated in 1957. After 1989, Frymburk became with great development, especially in sector of tourist traffic. There were open many restaurants, hotels and shops around the square. In 1990, local camping place was given into lease a Dutch Client. This fact caused stabil flow of tourists from Netherlands. The town started to live on social and cultural way of life. The cinema was closed, but regular Frymburk Festival was taken place. In town, there are active also many clubs and cooperations, such as voluntary firemen, sporting club SK Skiers-runners, tenis club, OS Dunaj, football team (soccer team), and we cannot miss active diving section.
