Teplice

The first notices about local healing springs are from 762 (according to not so probable legend sources). But, the archeological discoverings from the Roman era prove that these springs were used sooner, at change of the chronology. The healing effects of these fountains took notice Judita, wife of Břetislav II. and let, near to the springs, found a cloister, surrounded later by town houses consequently. The independent small town with all competences and own chronicle was established in 13th century and extended in the area of today´s castle. This town was originally the ownership of Czech Queens.

In the middle of the 16th century Teplice became famous for the fact that its owner, Volf of Vřesovice, let built the building with tanks separated for men and women, lodging possibilities and medical institutions for special guests. Until  the end of 18th century there were known in Teplice 15 healing fountains. Thanks to its charm and peace the place temptated even more number of visitors, especially of artists, scientists, philosophers - such as L.v.Beethoven, F.Chopin, J.W.Goethe, J.Dobrovský, F.Palacký and others.

In 19th century Teplice was, thanks to unbelievable number of visitors, nicknamed as a Small Paris (Le petit Paris). Teplice is not only the spa town, the local industry was succesfull, too, especially the glass and mining industry (brown coal). Now, the town offers to the visitors new reconstructed healing complex with many spa-houses, swimming pool, squash playgrounds, many restaurants, cafés and the theatre. As you prefer the nature beauties, would you make a trip to the surroundings. You can use a funicolare, taking to Milešovka Hill (837m) or to Komáří Vrch (992 m). In summer you can take advantage of bathing in water basins, created by re-cultivating activity, whereas in winter you enjoy skiing on arranged descent trails or running trials.
