CZ, Bohemian Paradise: Beautiful Localities North of Turnov – VIDEO
First, we follow the Zlata trail, a tourist road we walked along the last time already (it follows the Hruboskalsky ridge). The trail joins the most important localities across the Bohemian Paradise and its immediate surroundings (except for the Prachov Rocks). The trail starts at Mlada Boleslav, goes across Mnichovo Hradiste, the ruins of Castle Valecov, Drabske Svetnicky, Prihrazske Rocks, Castle Kost, goes along Nebakov pond, the ruins of Castle Trosky, the Hruboskalsky Ridge, the town of Turnov to our current spot in the northern part of the Bohemian Paradise. The trail then goes across Frydstejn, follows a ridge up to Mala Skala, then crosses Besedicke rocky town and runs up the highest peak of the Bohemian Paradise – Kozakov. From there the trail continues to Jicin. The entire lenght of the trail counts for about 120 kilometers. It really takes you to the most amazing places in the region. Anywhere you join the trail you will have great time.
Northeast of the town of Turnov there is large green space along the River Jizera – Dolánky u Turnova. People like to travel here to relax and do sports. In summer, you can sim here in the river, there is a small concrete wading pool and several monkey bars. Right in Dolanky, there is a restaurant selling snacks or renting scooters. There is an asphalt road suitable for roller-skaters. Bikers are very frequent here. 2 kilometers on and the asphalt road changes to a gravel path. Dlastkuv homestead is a very important landmark in Dollanky. It is a protected cultural landmark by the Czech state. The homestead belongs to the Museum of the Bohemian Paradise in Turnov. Also, a timbered grainery belongs to this landmark, it is cdubbed Rakous' log cabin. This cabin used to be situated in Maly Rohozec and was transported here.
You can further follow the red tourist trale to the north. There is Drabovna na Zaborci, an amazing area of rock formation. The trail goes right through it. If you want to ride here on a bike than you can go around the forest by riding down the asphalt road. The trail runs up the opposite ridge. There are the Besedicke rocks and the very distant HHruboskalsko and Trosky. The ruins of Castle Frydstejn is yet another great point of interest on the red tourist trail. A 15-meter castle tower is the main feature of the 13th century ruin. It has been opened to the public for several years already. Right from under the flag on the tower you can enjoy the vista over the immediate and distant surroundings as well as the Maloskalske valley. Then you can walk in 2 courtyards and see some castle chambers carved into the rock.
Should you walk along the rocky ridge you are about to walk for an hour towards the Mala Skala. Castle Vranov sits on sharp rocky cliffs. This vast castle offers amazing vista over surrounding hills. Also, many caves and cave chambers are well-preserved here. These are also worthy your attention. About half a kilometer from the castle, there is an amazing scenic point of view on the top of cliffs above the River Jizera.
It takes about 15 minutes of downhill walk to reach the village of Mala Skala. It is a beautiful place but it has been icreasingly crowded by tourists. You can rent a boat at Zluta Plovarna and ride down a short section of the river to Dolanky. To get back you can either tak a train, walk, ride on a scooter or a bike. There are three snackbars along the bike trail. The choice is yours: a log cabin, a high house close to the rails, and a snack bar by the river.
Then the trail runs east to the Besedicke Rocks. There is classic and not much frequented labyrinth. Kozakov mountain is another place from where you can watch the Bohemian Paradise from up above. There is a 24-meter steel observation tower on its top. Kozakov itself is situated 744 meters above sea level making it the highest mountain in the Bohemian Paradise. Theis mountain is also a national landmark which consists of three types of rock. Also, precious stones were iscovered here: agate, jasper, chalcedon, amethyst etc.
Yet another place luring tourists here (yet not part of the Bohemian Paradise) is Sychrov chateau. This is very romantic place built in Gothic revival style. A vast chateau park belongs to this chateau. It includes an orangery with a cafe inside. The chateau garden is often venue for concerts, markets and other events.
To the Bohemian Paradise!
