REGION OF MORAVIA-SILESIA
It is situated in the northeastern part of Czech Republic. It is a territory with high developped mining, metalurgy, machinery and chemical industry. Unfortunately, in consequence of presence of these heavy industries, came to the pollution of living environment.

Karviná
Anyway, the town offers possibilities for sports and cultural activities, moreover, it is an important spa and university resort. Karviná-area is formed by 7 towns (Karviná, Havířov, Bohumín, Český Těšín, Orlová, Petřvald, Rychvald) and 9 communities.
The town was situated on merchant route from Hungary to Baltic Countries. First written notices come of 1268 (from so called Breslau Tithe). The operation of Prince Bolek II was of big importance for a town as he concluded a peace with Hussite troops and so succeded in protecting the town from their attacks. Afterthat, Kazimirs´ privileges of 1473 confirmed the town the existing privileges, and it was allowed to arrange the markets.
17th century was as a mark of 30-years war, war´s plundering, epidemies and hard troubles. After Silesian wars in 18th century, a new statutory labour patent was issued, in 1781 the servitude was cancelled and religious liberty for evangelist belief was enacted. At the end of 18th century, the town was bought Count Larisch-
Monnich Parentage. They gave an order for mining of black coal. So, the development of further connected industrial branches – such as metallurgy, iron industry and coke-oven industry started.
At the beginning of 20th century further companies and factories were established, and in 1923 Karviná was officially declared as a town. During 1938 and 1939 this area belonged to State of Poland and in 1939 to German Third Reich. After a liberation, in 1948 the communities of Karviná, Fryštát, Darkov, Ráj and Staré Město were united in one administrative body and name Karviná.
In Karviná-Fryštát you can visit Neo-classical castle of ened of 
18th century. You can see here an exposition of life of Larisch-Monnich Parenatge, open for public since 2006. Parish church of Raise of St.Cross comes of 14th century.
In 1862 there was discovered iodine-bromine salt, which serves for treatment of movement and circular systems, diseases of skin, after-operation, injuries and burns treatments. Darkov Spa is very popular and visited, mainly from abroad.
Karviná became also – since 1991 – a seat of Trade-Business faculty odf Silesian University. Karviná Region forms part of Euroregion Těšínské Slezsko. The lovers of cycling can use 800 kms of long cycling routes. Těrlice Dam serves as holiday resort, with several beaches, loans of vessels and towage for water-skiing.
