REGION OF PARDUBICE

It is situated in Eastern Bohemia, most of this area is formed  with highlands and hills, coming to plains along  the river Elbe. The capital of a region is a statutory town of Pardubice.

Heřmanův Městec is distant 17 kilometres from Pardubice and 10 kilometres only from the town of Chrudim. The locality with this poetic name has five thousands of inhabitants. In past, an important Jewish community was settled there.

Pardubice, a Region town, is located in distance of more than one hundred of kilometres from Prague. The locality became famous through Great Pardubice Steeplechase, honey-gingerbread, and also by Paramo Refinery Station or Synthesia Factory Complex.

In a distance of 10 kms, in southwest direction from the town of Vysoké Mýto, there is to be found a ruin of originally Gothic, later in Renaissance style re-built castle of Košumberk. The castle was constructed on very difficult accessible place on basaltic hill, above the valley of small Novohradka river, near to the community of Luže.

Žumberk stronghold is located in a community of the same name, along Svinenský brook valley, on the slope of Novohradské Mountains, in a distance of approx. 7 kms from the town of Trhové Sviny, in an altitude of 500 metres above sea level. There is often mentioned in a literature that this village presents one of three partially fortificated communities in Europe.
