Košumberk castle

In a distance of 10 kms, in southwest direction from the town of Vysoké Mýto, there is to be found a ruin of originally Gothic, later in Renaissance style re-built castle of Košumberk. The castle was constructed on very difficult accessible place on basaltic hill, above the valley of small Novohradka river, near to the community of Luže.

Žumberk stronghold is located in a community of the same name, along Svinenský brook valley, on the slope of Novohradské Mountains, in a distance of approx. 7 kms from the town of Trhové Sviny, in an altitude of 500 metres above sea level. There is often mentioned in a literature that this village presents one of three partially fortificated communities in Europe.
