REGION OF ZLÍN

The region of Zlín  is situated in the Eastern Moravia . It neighbours with the Region of South-Moravia, Region of Olomouc and  Moravia-Silesian Region.

The first weekend this year we decided to spend in the mountains. This time we left snowboards at home, and despite the sufficient amount of snow on the slopes, we have tried for change the winter tourism. And I must say, we don’t regret.

When you hear Zlín, everybody could remember emotive story of Baťa Parentage. His trace is to be felt till now from all parts of the town. It is to be rebound from the walls of factories, in streets´ names or in a name of local University.

Lukov Castle - you cannot see it directly from the valley, the path leads there through forest.You follow red-white marked signs of the castle, pictured on tree-trunks, this is the only guidance to the target. Finally, after three kilometres long walk you reach your finish, stone fortifications of ancient ruin.

The community of Velehrad is situated between heads of Chriby Hills, 8 kms distant from the town of Uherské Hradiště, in one of most picturesque areas of Moravian Slovacko. It is an important spiritual centre, a place of often church pilgrimages, meetings and Cyril-Method celebrations. 1400 inhabitants live here, in extention of 2230 ha.

Buchlovice Castle and Park is situated at south-east border of beautiful countryside of Chřiby-Hills, not far from majestic Buchlov Castle. The building belongs to most important noble seats of Baroque style in the territory of the Czech Republic.

Velký Lopeník look-out-tower (911 m) is erected directly on Moravia-Slovakian border, and presents a symbol of reciprocal friendship of both nations.

Through Chřiby Hills (or Buchlov Hills) there lead so called Amber and Salt Merchandise ways from ancient times. Prehistoric piece of ground was built here. In 2nd century B.C. the Celtics constructed oppidum in this area. The castle was founded - according to legends - in time period of Great-Moravian Knight of Svatopluk.

The town of Chropyně is situated in valley of Morava-river. Chrop-stronghold became a nucleus of original community which surrounded this building. The archeological findings suggest the settlement of this area to 1000, first written notices come from 1261. In this year, the community was donated to new founded Cisterciac monastery in Vizovice.

The town of Vsetín is situated at foot of Hostýn and Vizovice Hills, around banks of Vsetínská Bečva-river. Dominanta of Vsetín is formed by a castle with a park of 17th century. Today, it is a seat of local regional museum. Except of this, we find here Evangelic Churches of Lower and Upper Synod, Parish Church of Virgin Mary, former civic house Maštaliska and an old town hall.
