River description:
This river sources at the edge of Preserved Nature Area Bohemian Forest, near to community of Polečnice in an altitude of 838 m. It flows, in spite of many turnings, to the west, where it mouths from right side in Český Krumlov to Vltava river. Its river-basin makes 198 km².
The river flows throughout open valley between meadows and fields, the countryside is inhabited. The railway line, connecting Český Krumlov with Lipno-Dam leads in this valley. The river bed is stony, wide 6-10 m, successively in direction to Krumlov is more calm. Anyway, in Český Krumlov the flow of Polečnice terminates with short, narrow rocky pass, where the river falls to Vltava. The weirs are unpleasant, more suitable for climbing and other dangerous operations. The river-bed is-in some sections-embanked. As to tributaries: it is navigable Chvalšinský brook. Polečnice river is navigable at higher water-level in spring or after heavy rains. The same is valid for Chvalšinský brook. The navigation is not too difficult. As a delicacy is the pass at the end, navigable at certain, optimal water level, however, with some stage of danger.
