Published: 13.9.2017
We stay in the sunny country of Greece also this week. Today, we visit the most popular summer resort on the Olympic riviera – the town of Paralia. This sea resort is about 8 kilometers away from the capital of Pieria prefecture. Paralia is a great place to relax at and have fun.
If you love clean, snad beaches, crystal clear sea, good food, temperamentful people then Paralia is just for you. There are amazing promenades lined with shops, taverns, restaurants and discos. Moreover, there is an amusement park and beautiful places in nature. Families with children can enjoy many water attractions and shallow sea by the coastline.
The name of this area means beach. Therefore, there are towels, blankets or parasols. Moreover, there are many cafés and many vendors selling home-made cones. Which are delicious, by the way. Also note interesting mailboxes, frescoes on house walls, or the wharf. You may also see turtle breeding facility and boats anchored along the seafront.
Apart from hotels there is also an Orthodox church dedicated to martyr Agia Paraskevi who allegedly treated blindness. The church is open also at night.
Paralia is a recreation resort. But you can add to your stay by making trips to the surrounding areas. For instance, visit the former capital of the prefecture, or go to the mountain town of Litochoro, the nearby village of Kallithea, or Dion archeological excavation site.
Next week we visit a small Greek island of Skiathos and its Koukounaries beach. It is considered one of the most beautiful Mediterranean beaches in the world.

Certainly the most picturesque and romantic place I have seen in Europe is the Greek island of Santorini. And that is one of the reasons why we returned here this year after nine years. I will not lie when I reveal that another important aspect of our revisit was very cheap tickets, of which there are more than enough on offer. The best weather is of course here in the season, but even now it is a pleasant 18 degrees.

Santorini (Thira in Greek language) is a relatively small part of the Cyclades archipelago, with a width of only 6 km and a length of just over 25 km. Its area, however, strongly balances the geographical and geological location of the island and its rich history. Situated 220 km from Athens and 110 km from Crete, Thira has always been an important and often necessary stop on the route between these major shopping centers. As a result, traces of the largest Minoan settlement outside Crete have been preserved on the island.
