Austria: Hochsteiermark – A Region for People in Love

Hochsteiermark covers the area from StyrianSemmering to the Hochschwab Mountains and further to the Eisenerz Alps. This mountainous land attract from the time immemorial not only the Austrians but also visitors from other countries to do trips in beautiful and sometimes wild nature.

A bright blue water and dark green forests are typical for this area as well as unique mountain panoramas where people go for relax and have unforgettable memories there. So please accept our invintation for a small walk in this unusual region.

Spring is knocking on the door and together with it warm sunny days. Nature is returning to life.Hochsteiermark is known, for example, for a honeymoon ofEmperor Franz Joseph Iand his wife Sissi and today it has a romantic flirtation for its visitors. In the time of the 170th anniversary of birth of the Austrian poet Peter Roseggerthere are many project, events and activities in this region related to exploration of the most beautiful places of Hochsteiermark. Visitors can discover cultural and historical heritage in the region together with a humorous Rosegger guide. The guide will lead you to distinct shepherd huts where you will taste some typical sweets and local specialties. In Alpl town, there is a wooden podium where children together with their parents can try some of shepherd dances. For more adventurous people there is an attraction in a fruit growing area in Mürztal, it is an antique tractor on which you can drive across romantic forests and colorful meadows where you will have a picnic by a lake.

The Region Hochsteiermarkwill connect you with nature as much as possible. For example, you can try a four-day alpine yoga that takes place in open-air. In case of bad weather you can visit an exhibition called "A Cult of Skulls ". There you will experience the shivers when looking at 300 exhibits of thousands of years old cranial bones, hunters’ trophies or skull relicts.
If you like water then there is another reason why you will like this region. You can experience tandem diving. This project was constituted as a part of the International Year of Water. Visitors can raft wild streams of Salza or dive in the Präbichl alpine aquarium, in Green Lake or inKaribikTragöße. Speaking of water, it is an interesting fact that the spring of Kläfferquelle is located byWildalpene, the most abundant source of drinking water in Europe that supplies the Austrian capitalVienna and partially Graz.

Local tourist club published the Hochsteirmark Flirtation Guide where are explored romantic places of the region. There is also a list of 24 benches dedicated to flirting, recommendations of open-air taverns, spots of full picnic baskets, and there are also some love stories related to the region as well as tips where to find thematic tourist trails, sport events and even recipes for lunch for two.
