CZ, Bohemian Paradise: Beautiful PLaces Southeast of Turnov – VIDEO
The trail rouns southwards from Cesky Raj's square. It ascends midly across Masov district. There are more and more nature along the way. Should you arrive by car, you can park your car at Pod Hlavatici restaurant. The Hruboskalsky Ridge begins at a lonely sandstone rock (380 m) dubbed Hlavatice. The oulook on its summit has been open since 1894. Now there is a metal (formerly wooden) spiral staircase. The vistas into the surrounding are splendid from the outlook.
The trail then runs through forest. In about 10 minutes of walk you reach a stone bridge with copies of iriginal Baroque statues of Czech noblemen. This is the gateway Castle Valdstejn. If you travel by car, there is a charged car park under Valdstejn in Pelesany village. This one is one of the oldest castles in the Bohemian paradise (its history dates back as far as to the 13th century). A Classicis-style exhibition is also an interesting place to visit. The ehxhibition is situated in the Ceremonial Hall. A saloon holding a portrait gallery (first floor), baroque church of St Jan of Nepomuk holding original Baroque statues once decorating the bridge before the gateway. Another interesting place here is a romantic terrace/ceiling of the Biliard Hall and stables. An exposition of beautiful fairy-tale costume is situated in the Ceremonial and Billiard Halls. The exposition display costumes related to fairy-tale pictures which were shot at this castle (e.g. Arabela or Prince Bajaja).
Hruba Skala chateau, which is dominant landmark on the ridge, is about 34 minutes of walk from this place. You will be thrilled as the trail goes just above the "rock town" of Hruboskalsko. If you go slightly off the road you will certainly reach some of the outlooks (U lvicka or na kapelu outlooks) with amazing vistas over the beautiful rock towers rising above deep forest. Maybe you'll spot some mountaineers climbing up. Then you walk along Bukovina arboretum. There grow douglas fir and other fir trees, tulip tree, and other trees.
Floriana a sv. Vavřince z období kolem roku 1730. To už jste nalevo minuli kostel sv. Josefa, do kterého jste mohli nahlédnout.
Trosky is very romantic ruin of Gothic castle situated on the top of a hill of the same name. The ruin consists of two towers. The Panna tower is the higher one and Baba the lower one. Once you pay the entrance fee you can explore the ruin in detail. There are outlooks on galleries on both tower. Three tourist trails run in Trosky's proximity.
Let's go back a bit to Podtrosecke valleys in the area between Hruba Rock and Trosky castle. There are amazing lakes. The yellow tourist trails following the shores of lakes Vezak, Krcak, Vidlak, Hrudka, and Rokytnicky Pond makes a wonderful place for a walk or a bike ride.
Our last stop in the southeast of the Bohemian Paradise are the Prachov Rocks which you must visit. There are three scenic circuits in the rock formations. These run between rocks or across man-made rock outlooks. There is an entrance fee and you can move only along designated routec. The only exception are mountaineer of the Czech Mountaineer Association. Surely you will see some them climbing somewhere here.
The last article on the Bohemian Paradise will deal with its northeast territory. We will publish it next Tuesday.
