France, Paris X. – DOrsay Museum, the Home of Impressionism

Published: 30.7.2014
The royal tour we wrote about last week was a beautiful end of the day. Tired, yet full of impressions we got back to the hotel. After a really tight sleep we woke up to new day in Paris. Again, we are ready for trips to learn about new places in this city.

At breakfast, which consisted of a traditional croissant with a cup of coffee, we planned where we go today. As the destination of the day we chose Musée d'Orsay and a cruise on Siena. And our so we set out to reach the first destination of the day.
Muzeum d'Orsay

"Monet’s" Museum

Museum d'Orsay is literally a gem, inside and outside as well. It is a kind of mecca of Impressionism. In this unique museum the exhibited works were created 1848-1914 . You will find famous paintings of Monet’s Garden in Giverny, or the Pond with Water Lilies and Japanese bridge ( Claude Monet himself is the founder of this style), the Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh , even Collectors of Crop by Camillo Pissarrio. The museum captures literally painting revolution that occurred more than a century ago. Until then the painters were recognized only by those who realistically captured the life and surroundings. Everything changed the arrival of a new generation of painters in Paris who ceased to hold good rules and began to blur the line . This first phase of a new style is called Impressionism. Characteristic is the painting in the open air, in the open air to capture the colors and light in a certain part of the day. Short brush strokes, applying paint directly from the tube and not from the palette and variety, all of it we can admire today. In the second phase, this style crossed to the so-called Post-Impressionism to use only elements of impressionism , but in fact it was the basis for the emergence of modern modern art styles of the 20th century.
Muzeum d'Orsay

Barracks, palace, train station...

Well, we got a little carried away explaining what everything in the museum you can find and see, so let's get back a little. Musee d'Orsay is located on the left bank of the Siene and its front part that has a very large clock with stone façade in the style of eclecticism. It located opposite to the the Tuileries Garden. The building itself is pompous, whether you're standing in it or look at it from a distance. It was once a railway station, but before that it used to be two separate buildings, serving as a military barracks and the Palace d'Orsay. You may now ask how he became a barracks respectively. Railroad one of the most beautiful art in the world stands?
Muzeum d'Orsay
After the World War II, the area of the building was used only as an experimental theater space or for shooting films. Then came the idea to rebuilt it to a art museum dedicated to the second half of the 19th century. When in 1978 began the renovation work on the former railway station that served its purpose until 1939. Eight years later, on the 9th December 1986 the museum was officially completed and opened. Former railway station building still recall just mentioned large clock .
Muzeum d'Orsay
Regarding collections, survey we conducted was, unfortunately, very quickly, and we certainly have not seen everything. Individual exposures focus on French art. Except famous paintings there are displays of live art, various statues and architectural models. The collections were moved from three museums and the National Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery du Jeu de Paume and the Louvre Museum. New works are added to the Musée d'Orsay regularly. The museum hosts various exhibitions.
Muzeum d'Orsay
Be sure to visit this museum. And be sure you have enough time to do so. Only then you will enjoy the unusual atmosphere. We unfortunately did not, and that's why want to definitely come back here again. Even though we did not see much artistic treasures, we do not regret that we spend some time at this place. Quite the contrary! We were very excited about it. Full of enthusiasm, we went to the waterfront, where we have a small cash purchase ticket for the boat that will take us through Paris in a slightly different manner. But we will tell you about it next week.

Indeed, for a long time I haven’t been to a place that would have so much of student atmosphere yet it wasn’t flooded with “poor” hipster cafes.
