Greece: Zakynthos – the journey cross turtle island I.

The Greek islands are one of the most popular holiday destinations in the last decade. The Ionian Sea resort near the northwest coast of Greece offers one of the best swimming opportunities in the Mediterranean. Islands like Corfu, Lefkada, Kefalonia and Zakynthos are about 2 hour flight far from our country, nowadays in the long flights it is literally around the corner. I spent the Greek islands - Lefkada, Crete and Zakynthos several recent holidays. And why I chose this place? I'm not a believer in social action-holidays, discotheques and wild beach parties, despite my relatively young age do not say too much. Before the busy world of trying to run away somewhere where I can set aside at least a few days in relax. Maybe you are similar as me. And if not, you will see that in Zante a dull moment doesn’t exist!

The island can be divided into two parts. It occupies the western edge of the mountainous and partly impenetrable landscape, where only results in an orbital road, which partly follows the rocky coastline with high cliffs. The eastern part is different, a fertile plain, with many towns, villages and tourist resorts especially where it really lives. The total area of the island is 410 km2 with 123 km length of coastline, so much as conquer without a problem in one day with several stops, which we write below. Mythology is like all the Greek islands as an integral part of life history. Zakynthos is often called as Dionysus Island and it is not surprising, since one of the main symbols of the island is a vine, and where else should be the patron of the hedonistic god Dionysus, than right.

In the eastern part of the island are popular tourist center Laganas, Kalamaki, Argassi, Tsilivi, Alykes, Limni Keri, and especially the capital city with the same name as the island, is Zakynthos. These centres are nothing special compared to other Mediterranean departments. One bar after another, mostly due to its mood and designed into all sorts of styles, so there is no problem in the evening drink in the style of Pirates of the Caribbean and what can´t be missed…a world-famous Rock Cafe. All of these are complemented by discos and numerous kitschy souvenirs, so every lover of lively entertainment and a little more straightforward will be happy there.

Sandy beaches with gradual entry into the sea are also subject to particularly the east coast, despite the clear waters do not wait marine life here. Who was ever in Egypt, may have snorkelling gear with ease at home. Unless you are fans of water sports, you'll have in this regard, perhaps a little unlucky, because the entire southeastern part of the island and especially the southern Gulf of centers Laganas, Kalamaki and Limni Keri is declared a national marine park, which is fully subordinated a huge green turtles, which Zante selected as a place of life and especially lay their eggs on local beaches. Despite this phenomenon the beaches are open to the public. Despite certain limits in this area it is possible to rent for a few hours of motor boats that are in price ranges around like rental car for the whole day, or about 25-40 euros. The main attractions of the island are just the turtles, which can trace the several hours drive, or use full-day cruise to the biggest attractions, which are blue-visit the caves in the northeast corner of the island or tour the impressive wreck of a pirate ship wreck on the beach, but it and many other things we say to the other parts of our trip around the island of Zakynthos.
