Indonesia VIII: Expedition 2011 - Seating Day In Bali

Published: 3.9.2012
Day Eight - We arrived to Bali last night, but we started to know it only today. Slowly because we lazed almost the whole day. In the morning we got up early to see sunrise, all day we lazed by the sea and dinner we enjoyed on the beach.

Airport in Denpasar, the capital of Bali, it resembled a larger bus station. From the plane, we went on foot to the airport hall, where we were waiting Mate, our new guide. Because Bali Hinduism is the dominant, already from the name it was clear that this is a second-born son (see Indonesia VII.). He was one of ten siblings, low caste, but it did not prevent him in a good mood and smiles. Knowing that we are from Slovakia, greeted us saying, "Okay, well, how are you?" He loaded us into the van and drove to the Hotel Bintang - I remember because it was also the name of the beer we were buying in Indonesia - lying in the field called Nusa Dua on the southern tip of the island. It is one of the ministries, which is there on the coast of countless, perfectly built with excellent service and food, in short catalog one. With the rest of the island had a common geographical location and the fact, that there people from Bali worked. Otherwise, it was a different universe.

There we had a De Luxe apartments, great, perfect and probably quite expensive. In front of the apartments was swimming pool and behind began sea.

Swift sunrise

In the morning we were up early and went to see the sunrise. In the distance, the haze over the sea loomed huge Batur volcanic complex whose outer reaches caldera measuring 10 x 13,5 km. This caldera formed when a massive explosion about 29,300 years ago and had caused one of the biggest disasters in the relatively short history of the Earth. Today is her northwest side of embedded water eponymous Lake Batur. The caldera is still active dormant volcanic cone again called simply Batur, which is 1717 meters high. In this interesting volcanic complex is still underway moderate explosions accompanied by occasional outbursts of basaltic lava.

Sun could not be long to wait and jumped out of the sea. Sunrise and sunset on the equator is much faster than the one we know. It was a "nice theatre". During the day we relaxed near sea, sometimes we swam. In the evening Mate came and we agreed with him the trips that we want to do on Bali: a trip to the town of Ubud, then a bit of snorkeling in Padang, the next day pause, and then into the jungle, and finally even a cycling trip from Lake Batur to Ubud.

"Innocent" dinner on the beachdinner on the beach

In the evening we went to the beach, where the tables were ready, on sea fishing boats pitched and music played American country music. We had dinner, Mate arranged for us. It was excellent, the price was non-Christian, but I also non - hinduistic, a few million, that we left there, the family on the island earns in a few months. We were in fact innocent but we wanted from him to order dinner at a local restaurant, home, as we saw at Prambanan. Maybe Mate was innocent as well. Maybe there wasn´t such ...
