Water surface itself is  popular resort of sailing-vesels lovers has an extention of 14 kms?. Its water-level is placed in an altitude of 271 m of sea level. Dam-surroundings, mainly its part not far distant from pier, there are concentrated fully for holidays and relax. You find here several military recreation houses and many accommodation resorts, concentrated especially in communities of Rabyně, Měřín, Ždáň and Županovice. Here are to be found famous camping places and other hinterland necessary for navigation traffic and relax, which was, and will be popular holiday activity of not distant capital-inhabitants.

A special chapter of this dam forms a pier. First decision about Slapy-dam construction comes just of 1933. Anyway, water work Slapy was built 22 years later. during 1949-1955.

Pier has 260 m length and 65 m heigth, based on rocky bottom, has an original construction. Narrow valley, where the dam is situated, called for special and unique solution of this water work, not typical in Europe at that time.

As soon as the dam building was terminated, electric water power station was operated in working, in its testing operation. Next year - in 1956 - the Ministery of Agriculture, Forests and Water Administration granted an allowance to standard working operations.

Under four overflows 15x8 m with a capacity of 3000m?/sec. there is placed-directly in pier-body - machine - room of power station, all helpful services, administartive rooms (offices), internal switch-board 110 kV, switch board 22 kV, necessary transformers and two basic flood-gates. It is equipped with three Kaplan-turbines of total power 3x48 MW for a slope of 56 metres.

Fully automatised power station, under supervision of ČEZ, is producting electric energy in ecologycal execution and participates in management of  executing balance of state energetic system.

From central office in Štěchovice, its power is managed in long-distance way, in accordance with needs. This power is capable to be reached within 136 seconds.

Electric power station is used especially for protection reasons - protection against floodings. First test prove was made in July 1954, and saved capital Prague against descructive flooding. To further purposes of Slapy water work belong:

Water-accummulation security for:

-         flowings´ increase.

-         orders for power station.

-         for needs of navigation

-         security of minimal flowing for water-work in Prague-Podolí.

-         order of utility water for water-work purposes in Prague-West district.
