Jesuit missions of the Guarani tribe

Jesuit Missions of the Guaranis Tribe (1983, 1984, 1986)

Jesuit Missions of the Guaranis: San Ignacio Mini (27°15´S, 55°32´W), Santa Ana, Nuestra Seňora de Loreto a Santa Maria Mayor (27°33´S, 55°30´W) in Argentina, together with Sao Miguel das Missoes in Brasil (28°33´S, 54°33´W). Rests of five Jesuits missions and Indian communities of Guarani tribe were created in tropical virgin forest within 17th and 18th centuries. The house was built by missionaires from Buenos Aires, together with five agriculture estates, established for carrying on whole project, where rests of religious and secular buildings could be found. In each farm, there was built a church with parsonage, where some towns were founded (Alta Gracia - 31°39´26“ S, 64°26´4“ W), or some ceased to exist (San Ignacio). Jesuit Block, Cordoba centre, together with other remaining estates, could be visited, following so called Estancias Way, 250 kms long. This complex was founded in 1615. However, the Jesuits were, by order of King Charles III., expelled in 1767, anyway the University was taken over by Franciscan Order. They continued in their activities till 1853, when the administration was returned to Jesuits again. Los Glaciares (1981)

GPS: 50°00´S, 73°15´W

Los GlaciaresNacional Los Glaciares is a National Park, located in Santa Cruz Province, in Patagonia in Argentina, involving an area of 4459 square kilometres. It was founded in 1937, and in 1981, the territory was declared as UNESCO World Heritage Area. It belongs to greatest national parks in Argentina. 30% of its surface is covered with ice (there are to be found here 47 great and many small glaciers). Thirteen glaciers flow into Atlantic Ocean. Frankly speaking, it is greatest area, covered with ice, after Antarctic and Greenland, moreover, its altitude is very low. Very cold climate and oceanic air are created by precipitations, which freeze all the time on glaciers and so often happen as its part. The ice rebounds blue light, whereas other colours are swallowed down. This „blue ice“ is typical of Los Glaciares area.

This park could be divided into two parts, according two great, extended lakes, situated partially on its territory. In south, there is situated the greatest lake in Argentina, Lago Argentino (taking 1466 square kilometres, 160 kms long). This lake mouth, except several small glaciers, three Viedma Lakemost greatest glaciers (Perito Moreno Glaciar, Uppsala Glacier and Spegazzini). Using a vessel, you can reach nearly the glasier.

North part is created by Viedma Lake (1100 km²), with a glacier of the same name, and several smaller glaciers. Here, there are very popular trekking and mountaineeering routes, including Mount FitzRoy and Cerro Torre. In this territory, in hign mountaneous sections, there are situated not clearly fixed borders between Argentina and Chile. El Calafate (50°20´S, 72°16´W), situated along banks of Argentina Lake, is a starting point of south section of the park, whereas Al Chalten (49°20´S, 72°53´W) in its northern part, on slope of FitzRoy. Torres del Paine (50°59´S, 72°30´), neighbouring park is located on Chilenian part.
