Do You Know, That? - The Greatest Mining Museum
Příbram Region was always a bastion of mining industry. No wonder that we can meet the rests of past fame even till now. However, most of buildings and mines were ceased to exist, but, despite this fact, one place where the time was stopped, exists. So, the way leads us to the community of Březové Hory, Příbram quarter, where the visitors could see and follow, just since the middle of 19th century, (1852), very difficult subterranean work. The original collections of minerals were added subsequently by artefacts from everyday live of miners. You can find there not only the subjects from modern recent time period, but also medieval subjects, and even archaeological findings from Celtic time period. When mining works were finished in 1950, all objects of so called Ševčín Gallery were under administration of National Museum of Technics. The collection was spreaded and the administration obtained several reconstructed buildings more, including Anna Mine (with gigantic steam engine). Since 1960, so called Prokop Gallery, was used for museum purposes. Here, you can admire and use small mine train - one of most popular attractions of the whole complex. At present, four educational routes are available in Ševčín Mine, where the visitors could make acquintaince with many mining machines and have a look at entrails of mining tower. Even comprehensive photo-gallery and artefacts of various mining technics of local ore and uranium mines are available. Similar survey is offered in Vojtěch and Anna Mines, situated nearby, where you can admire steam engines, galleries and a drive in mining train, as mentioned before. Moreover, in the surroundings you can find another remarkable places, closely joined with mining industry, as well as with sad history of political prisoners from Vojna, working camp, where the exhibition dedicted to victims of Communism, is installed.
