Do You Know, That? - The Oldest Look Out Tower
Do you know which is the oldest one?
So, Kleť Mountain, the highest peak of Blanský les, outposts of Bohemia Forest, is rising above picturesque town of Český Krumlov. From city centre, full of its involved narrow streets, full of history and cosy caffeehouses, close to Vltava-river, it is rather distant to go up. Anyway, the tour towards Kleť Look Out Tower could become a variegation of nice cultural day, and could be recommended to all tourists of any age. Coincidentally, the most steep section of such tour could be found in a park immediately behind the castle, where you have to overcome slowly the way to railway station and along straight way, following the road upstairs, towards the mountain. From there, you can follow a path with blue marked tourist trail, leading through the forest, and, within 90 minutes, you reach the oldest look out tower in Bohemia.
A Prince Joseph Knight Schwarzenberg let to construct, on top of Kleť Mountain (1083 m), 18 metres high stone tower, for private purposes of his parentage. Very nice round view is offered, under favourable weather conditions, towards Alps Mountains, Lipno Dam, complete belt of Bohemian Forest or Temelín Nuclear Electric Power Station. The look out tower serves for public since the second half of 19th century. In 1872, a small house, as a home for gamekeeper, (look out tower administrator) was built there. Today´s Therese Chalet was constructed in 1925, on the occasion of 100th anniversary of construction building. An observatory is the next building of Kleť top. The building was constructed in 1958, a couple of metres distant from look out tower. The chalet is offering, first of all during summer months, a refreshment and you can buy also souvenirs there. Except TV sender, you can use, since 1961, also seat rope railway from Krasetín (1732 metres long), with exceeding of 346 metres.
This excursion could be effected within six hours. You have available enough time for eventuel visit of renowned turning theatre auditorium in castle park.
