First, it was the Summer Palace (Yiheyuan颐和园), a romantic place we idyllically remembered for its winter atmosphere. In summer, however, the atmosphere was much worse. The second place in our trip would be the Forbidden City, Gugong in Chinese. It means “the Old Palace”.

We had seen many places on Java. Ijen volcano is, however, something entirely different. Sulfur miners work in harsh conditions here. Tourists pay entrance fee to see this unique thing. Many people see the Slovakian capital only when passing by in train, bus, or car while travelling from the Czech Republic to Hungary or vice versa. But it is really worth it to spend a while in the city of half-million on the Danube. Bratislava has changed. It is no longer boring, grey city. It has been gradually removing the damage done by the communist regime and life crawls back to the city.

China, Studies: Beijing – Packing and Getting Lost
Published: 9.1.2016
We survived the trip on the Great Wall of China. We liked it but ahead would be waiting pre-departure preparations. We were busy packing, me and B. As it turned out, packing one year worth of life in China to one coffer is far from easy and takes much more than just one afternoon. Therefore, I took T and P to their guest house and left them to take care of themselves.

Sweden, Malmö: Historic But Modern as Well
Published: 5.1.2016
You can literally cross a bridge from Copenhagen, Denmark to Sweden. But it is quite a long bridge. One may think both cities would be similar due to small distance separating them but you couldn’t be more wrong. Malmö has different feeling – it is calmer, more monumental, and more adult. You will feel its industrial history as well as present high-tech direction.

Indonesia: No, It Did Not Burn Down III – Java: Sandy Bedrock of a Crater and Famous Bromo Volcano

Sweden, Between Göteborg and Stockholm II. – Deep into the North
Published: 3.1.2016
We commenced the hiking part of our Swedish journey “deep in the north”. It was in the territory of Bohuslän which is eleven hours from Göteborg. Prices are same in Sweden as in the Czech republic. Nominally, at least. The most expensive part of our journey is travelling itself (had you your own food from the Czech Republic). However, there are many train and bus lines in the country.

China, Studies: Beijing – The Red-Hot Wall
Published: 2.1.2016
We managed climbing up the hill very well. We walked through a small village. Some watched us, some obviously had met tourists efore and waved at us. Once we reached a crossroad we suddenly saw its contours. And we also recognized contours of a small shop at the crossroads. It wasn’t overpriced. Surprisingly. We refilled our water and sugar supplies (popsicles). If there exists something like an addiction on popsicles, I was an addict in China.
