Mauritius – Grand Bassin, Chamarel, Gris Gris

On Mauritius, there is a beautiful Black River National Park, on the eastern edge of which is the B88 - Grand Bassin Road, which leads to the lake of the same name. This becomes the destination of pilgrims during the festival of Maha Shivaratri. The very entrance to the lake is guarded by two huge statues, more precisely the Hindu god Shiva and the unfinished statue of Durga Ma. The mentioned statue of Shiva is at the same time with a height of 33 meters the tallest statue located in Mauritius. There are a large number of monkeys in the vicinity of the statues, which should not be fed, as they can also dangerously scatter humans.
