Austria, Ischgl – The Paradise for Tourism and Skialpinism
The village of Ischgl is currently one of the most modern ski resorts in the world. Once there was only a few estates and a small church. Today, you will find many accommodation facilities of remarkable architecture, restaurants, rentals, shops, as well as a cableway museum, a peasant museum that reminds you of the former local mountain farmland or the museum of Austrian painter Mathias Schmid. From the sights you will find here several sacral buildings in the form of the parish church of St. Nicholas and chapels. Interestingly, there are also the largest concentrations of four-star hotels in Austria.
However, the most incoming tourists, including us, is certainly the ski area itself. It extends across the border between Austria and Switzerland (Samnaun ski resort). The linking of individual resorts has created one of the largest ski resorts in the Alps (if not the world), which offers 238 kilometers of modified slopes and more than 45 lifts. Cross country skiers also come here because the area has almost 50 km of cross-country skiing tracks.
Ischgl is also famous for its lively après-ski entertainment and busy nightlife. During the season (before the pandemic), which lasts from late November to early May, there are huge concerts where stars such as Elton John, Tina Turner, Bob Dylan, Jon Bon Jovi, Pink, Beyoncé, Katy Perry and many others have performed.
Ischgl's point of interest is that it offers fantastic approaches to stunningly snowy slopes, directly from the village. These include Pardatschgratbahn, Fimbabahn and Silvrettabahn. These cable cars are able to transport up to an incredible 93,000 people per hour. Also, many "conveyors" converge to Idalp, where a restaurant is located. Above this part there are wide and light slopes and so-called snow park. If you are heading towards Höllboden and Paznauner Thaya, you will enjoy a lot of red (medium) reds as well as a few more challenging blacks (hard) designed for skilful skiers alike. Perhaps the biggest challenge is the 70% downhill run in the Höllboden funnel accessible by the Lange Wand chairlift.
The Heidelberger Hutte is the closest to the mountain huts that can be mined by cable cars as well as the valley. In addition to experienced skaters and beginners, chat use the skiers to try and skip to chat. It is a kind of skialpinism.
The second available cottage is from Galtür (another ski town near Ischgl), which regularly runs a free ski bus. The cottage is called the Jamtal Hutte, and there is also the chance to experience beginner skiing. Of course, only to the cottage. Beyond the aforementioned chat, the skippers get to the glacier and the alpine environment.
The Silvretta mountain range itself occupies 900 sq. km, with 50 triple peaks and 120 smaller glaciers. The highest peak of the mountain range is Piz Linard (3 411 m above sea level) located in Switzerland.
If you think Ischgl lives only in the winter, you are mistaken. In summer, mountain biking takes you up to 2800 meters and you can also enjoy the 1,200-kilometer network of hiking trails, one of the largest in the Alps. Every year, the most important European marathon race is the Ischgl Ironbike.
The whole area is a paradise for those who love the breathtaking nature, sports, entertainment or adrenaline. We can only recommend her visit.
