Austria: Zell am See – A Glacier, Mountains and a Lake

Families, beginners and even experienced skiers will enjoy on 138 kilometers of ski slopes in Zell am See-Kaprun where are three skiing areas - Kitzsteinhorn, Schmittenhöhe and Maiskogel. However, Zell am See-Kaprun offers entertainment off ski slopes – cross country trips, racket trips, treks on your own foot, or sports on Zeller See lake surface.
Three ski areas for skiers and snowboarders
Zell am See-Kaprun is one of the most attractive regions in Austria. 138 kilometers of ski slopes in three ski areas offer skiers and snowboarders various opportunities. They can choose 47 kilometers of easy slopes, 59 kilometers of medium slopes or 32 kilometers of hard slopes.
Glacier ski area Kitzsteinhorn is well-known and popular place that guarantees a whole year presence of snow. About 41 kilometers of ski slopes are situated in 3029 meters above the sea level. Freestyle skiers are attracted by three snowparks, the largest superpipe in Austria, bumpy slopes and skiing circuits. But safety first – trained guides will prepare beginners and experienced skiers for an amazing ride in deep snow at Freeride XXL workshops and will guide them through Kitzsteinhornu.
Wonderful experiences wait for skiers at Schmittenhöhe , because just a ride in a world-famous cableway Porsche Design is worth it. The network consisting of 26 cableways and vski tows will get skiers up to 2000 meters above the sea level. On 77 kilometers of well-maintained ski slopes skiers will experience great entertainment. At the peak of Schmittenhöhe there is a unique view over other high mountains. Joy will find here mostly freeriders and snowboarders. In the Rome Park with several jumps, boxes or kickers biggest enthusiasts meet to have a good romp. At so-called Skimovie Slope , you can download video of your downhill at special terminal.
Ski slopes at Maiskogel in Kaprun are perfectly adjusted for families. In 1730 meters above the sea level there are seven cableways and ski tows that connect about 20 kilometers of wide and easy slopes. Every one who likes long ski slopes will also enjoy here because one of the slopes is seven kilometers long and thus one of the longest ski slopes in the region.
Winter sports for everybody
It is a challenge for every tourist and nordic walker to feel crunching of the snow in unpolluted Alpine nature. More than 40 kilometers of special tracks are leading in a picturesque surroundings of Zell am See. Enthusiasts who want to explore the nature on their own can do so with a trained guide.
Sledging is from time immemorial a winter classic in the Zell am See-Kapru. A fast ride on the track from Kitzsteinhorn and Smittenhöhe will bring entertainment and excitement. Among the greatest hits is „Alpine Coaster Maisiflitzer“ at Maiskogel. The first all year-long Alpine coaster in Salzburg is suitable for every generation. You will ride 1300 meters in 40 km/h to the valley.
There is always something happening on frozen Zeller See lake or in a sport hall. Ice-skaters and hockey players are going here and there on a glittering surface. The lake is popular also among ice-windsurfers and snowkiters. The best weather conditions guarantee a unique experience in gliding.
Zell am See-Kaprun offers also another winter adventures for those who seek something different, e.g. treks in intact powder snow to glacier caves.

If you love skiing and snowboarding and you are not beginners, then go to Kitzsteinhorn. It is a glacier in the Alpes in the Hohe Tauern. Snow is there all year long. Kitzsteinhorn is 3203 meters high and situated to the north from the highest mountain in Austria - Grossglockner.
