Great Britain, Manchester – Cradle of Industrial Revolution

Published: 11.8.2017
Manchester – once the showcase of industrial Europe. Today, is the industrial glroy long gone but now the city thrives as trade, cultural and educational hub.

Castlefield is the place to start exploring Machester. It is basically a landmark reserve. In the Roman times, Mamucium fortress was built here. It had remained basically intact until the end of the 18th century when it was flattened during the construction works of the Rochdale canal and a railroad track. Yet something of the fortress has been preserved and renovated. Thus, you can see some part of former walls, gate or grainery today.

While you are within the landmark zone, make sure to visit Bridgewater canal or maybe take boat ride on it. It was built in the year 1761 to transport coal from Worsley coal mines to Manchester. Many original warehouses have been reconstructed and turned into restaurants, offices, stores or hotels.

The Museum of Science and Industry should be another highlighted spot on your itineary. The museum is housed in world's oldest train station. Here you would learn how industry and science shaped our modern society. The museum's collection is simply vast and diverse. However, you mostly you can expect items from the Industrial Revolution era. On display are the then steam- or water-powered textile machines; old cars made in Manchester (such as Rolls Royce); historica airplanes, railroad posters, or a collection on the history of cinematography.

Muzeum vědy a průmyslu

Hlavní výstavou je Big Picture Show.
