Iceland – Meeting on Another Planet XXII

Norröna
Alarm was set to 8 o’clock this time. My friend wakes me up. We wanted to take together some pictures of the Shetlands. It is really nice of him yet before I managed to get on the deck, the Shetlands are pretty far away. So there go my photos...
I return to the lower deck. As on the other days I am going to enjoy “spa” offered on the ferry. I haven’t mentioned yet that a pool and sauna are for free. We truly enjoy this sort of relax. As the ship moves there are artificial waves in the pool. Hence, it is not easy to swim yet greater fun it is. Next to the pool there are two tubs next to the pool. In one is hot and in other is cool water, it is great thing for whole organism.
We are trying to make our time on the ship shorter by playing cards or reading unlike the inhabitants of the Faeroe Islands and even Iceland. Once the ship set sails, they unpack their knitting equipment and knit, knit, knit…. The sail takes couple of days, so they have enough of time for this praiseworthy activity.

Norröna, Hirtshals, Ejer Bavnehøj
In the early morning hours, Norröna lied an anchor in Hirtshals, Denmark. We take our luggage and move towards the exit. Cabins have to be left two hours prior arrival. The crew starts to clean them already there so the ferry would be quickly ready for another sail.
The sail on the board of Norröna was a pleasant experience for us, there and back. It is probably not always like this. We were really lucky. The Atlantic wasn’t stormy so I haven’t experienced sea sickness which makes me glad.
We have to wait for the bus which is getting much slower off the ship than the tourists. Thanks to good timing we decide to make a last stop. This time at Ejer Bavnehøj.
There is one of the highest points in Denmark. Therefore, there is Reunion Tower from where you can observe the surroundings. The hill reaches 170,86 m. The tower is 12,5 m high and its size is 2,5 x 2,5 m. Red brick was chosen as the construction material. It is in a shape of a double arc de triumph. Inside the tower is a spiral staircase leading up to the observation platform at 183,36 m above the sea level. It was built as soon as 1924.
Below the tower, there is a nice park. A 2.3 meter statue of Ma Ram witch is its landmark. Locals tell many legends about her.
Our tour is slowly getting over. The stop in Denmark is really the last tourist experience. Now we have to ride home by bus, home to the Czech Republic. Everything goes ok. In the early morning, Prague welcomes us.
Iceland is beautiful. You feel like being on another planet. I fell in love with it and I would like to return there at some point in the future.
