Italy: Val di Fiemme and Latemar Resort - VIDEO
You can speak Czech at many places. The area is more and more friendly towards the Czechs. Let see together why is it so! e!
One visits Italy increasingly for its historical sights and mountains rather than solely to swim in the sea. The Dolomites is one of the most beautiful parts of this Alpine range. Righteously though, it is in the UNESCO’s world nature sights list.
Another great advantage, unlike many other regions of the Alps, are great prices and that it is easy to travel to. True, it is bit further for the Czech to Italy than to Austria, yet the freeway going through Rozvadov, , Munich, Innsbruck, and Brenner Pass . It will be a fast ride. To Val di Fiemme from the freeway, one should only ride up a steep serpentine road. Due to this, the valley is one of the easy-to-access areas in the Dolomites.
A natural center of the valley is the town of Cavalese many use as sort of a headquarters for trips to the surroundings. Only couple of hundreds meters from there, a cabin cable way the restort of Alpe Cermis is located. The resort is set on the opposite slope. “Earlier we drove through Cavelese only to reach the other end of the valley. Three years ago, we spent couple of hours there on our way home. Since then we spend one whole afternoon to walk there,” said one skier who has been visiting Val di Fiemme for more than six years. “People are very friendly there. Food is great, and an afternoon cup of coffee, cup of wine, and tiramisu really blesses body and soul,” he adds.
Alpe Cermis Resorts is of an average size. There is enough to choose from for all kinds of skiers – begginers, or experienced. Local pride is a 7,5 km long black slope where world championship races are held every year. The elevation is of 1400 meters.
The valley has lots to offer also for cross country skiers, Marcialonga marathon takes place here as well, and Czech professional skiers train there. Cross-country tracks and ski slopes are well maintained. Everyone can choose one according to his/her abilities.
Many forget the Alps are beautiful in any season. Especially in summer all hike lovers, bike lover, or climbers will love it there. “Earlier, I imagined the Dolomites only as a ski paradise. Then we spend there vacation with whole family in summer and we didn’t want to go back. Husband with the oldest son spend together great time walking in the mountains. Me and our six year old twins stayed in the valley where we could have some short walks. When we wanted to enjoy some of the peaks we just got there by the cable car way,” says Petra, a mother from Prague I met in a café in. „The following year we took our bikes with us and sometimes rode together, sometimes we split.”
Val di Fiemme is ruled by 2 842 meters tall massif of Latemar. One can do many great mountain treks there. And, there is one of the largest ski resorts in Trentino and the Dolomites. A joint location of Predazzo, Pampeago and Obereggen allows you to ride on 50 km of slopes, some of them are my all time favorites.
The resort is one of the steepest. The beginners though have couple of wide blue slopes on plain below Latemar. Really nice bonus are almost always half-empty slopes, and short lines at cable ways. Great is a nmber of slopes in higher altitude, therefore giving you good option to ski when there is lack of snow.
Latemar is shadowed even the resorts such as Kronplatz, Alta Badia, Sella Ronda or Arabba. Yet its high capacity cableways and not so large crowds give Latemar an advantage in holding of visitors.
If you don’t demand large variety of slopes and wish to rest, then you would like a small resort of Alpe di Lusia. You can also visit another small resort of Passo Rolle. From there it is not too far to San Martino di Castrozza which has a common skipass with Passo Rolle.
Should you be lured by Italian well-being, excellent food, and beautiful nature, then visit Val di Fiemme. In spring the valley blossoms, it is most likely there will be warmer than in central Europe. The Dolomite valley are under the influence of warm air currents coming from the sea. Therefore, wine could be planted there as well as many types of fruits.
